Cutting molten glass

Revitrification is a public artwork by Matthew Curtis that explores how discarded glass can be reused as a valuable creative material rather than sent to landfill.

Installed on the Botanic Gardens' Friends Lawn for the Craft + Design Canberra Festival, the work transforms salvaged window glass into sculptural forms inspired by the Gardens, Seedbank and patterns found in nature.

Using casting, moulding and blowing techniques, Curtis embraces the material’s natural variations to create finishes ranging from transparent to opaque. The project will divert around two tonnes of glass from landfill, demonstrating sustainable approaches to material reuse and circular design.
