Plan your visit.

Plan your visit.

Plan your school visit carefully to ensure your day in the Gardens runs smoothly.

Make a day of it

An excursion to the Gardens offers great value for money, especially if your students take part in more than one activity.

As well as enjoying one of our curriculum–linked, ranger guided programs, why not add in a free teacher guided activity or let your students explore the Gardens at their own pace?

Use the Plant Science Learning Hub to tailor your visit

The Plant Science Learning Hub uses Australia's unique plants and stories to provide a complete learning journey through plant science.

Browse the Hub to find pre-visit, on-site and post-visit activities for your class.

Bookings and confirmation

Bookings are essential for all school excursions to the Gardens, whether ranger guided or teacher guided.

You can now book online and check availability for programs with Book Canberra Excursions. You will be able to view and update booking details online.

For urgent enquiries or changes to bookings within the next two weeks please contact education@anbg.gov.au or call 02 6250 9408.

Cancellations and weather

Our ranger guided programs run on rainy days. However, if heavy rain is forecast, you might like to consider cancelling or rescheduling your excursion.

Please provide at least 24 hours notice when cancelling or rescheduling a ranger guided program. Bookings cancelled within 24 hours of their start time will incur full payment of the booking fee.

If you need to cancel a teacher guided program, please inform us before your group is due to arrive at the Gardens.

Programs can be cancelled or rescheduled by calling the Education Office on 02 6250 9408.

We may need to close some or all of the Gardens in times of severe winds, thunderstorms or high fire danger. If this results in your booking being cancelled, you will not be charged.

Accessibility

The main path of the Gardens is wheelchair accessible. Please notify the Education Office of any other accessibility needs for your group.

Lunch and morning tea areas

The Gardens has several grassy areas with shelters that are great for lunches and breaks.

You can picnic under Australia’s most iconic trees on the Eucalypt Lawn, spread out by the pond on the Crosbie Morrison Lawn or investigate unusual plants at the Rock Garden Lawn.

Rubbish

There are no bins in the Gardens. Please bring rubbish bags to collect any waste and take it away with you for disposal.

First aid

The school and accompanying teachers are responsible for providing any first aid treatment.

Please report any incidents to our Visitor Rangers on 02 6250 9540 or 0417 021 558. These rangers can help you manage first aid incidents or emergencies.

Teacher–student ratios and supervision

The duty of care for visiting students remains with their teachers at all times. Please ensure you have a minimum of 1 teacher for every 15 students during your visit.

Please explain to attending adults that they have an active and important role in supporting the learning activities and keeping an eye on students throughout the session.
